Today has offered a senior moment for which I am grateful. At 8 this morning high school buddies from our class of 1955 zoomed another cordial hello. It’s a male group, I suppose a holdover from the rather strict separation of the sexes in the early 1950s at Lancaster Mennonite School.
Lester Groff … Dan Hess … Nevin Kraybill … Jim Maust …David Shenk …Daniel Shertzer … Dale Stoltzfus … Roy Wert … Ray Witmer … Earl Zimmerman
Guys still living but not with us today: Mel Barge … John Landis … Ross Mast … John Rutt … Marvin Weaver.
Since our most recent Zoom, Paul Harnish died, a victim of Covid. Others who have died: Bob Bosley … Dan Durbro … Don Hershey … Paul Gehman … David Horst … Bill Leakey … John Neidig … Harold Stauffer … Elvin Stoltzfus … John K Stoltzfus … Luke Wenger … Earl Zimmerman … Harold Zook.
My high school buddies are writ large on my screen despite my having moved out of the area . Each of our conversations marks the passing of time, but indeed this awareness is for me a reason for gratitude for these friendships.
